FAKE INFLATABLE CROCODILE
Candide | Scottish Opera (2022) | Designed by Tim Meacock
This fake inflatable was carved from high density polystyrene as two singers had to be able to sit on it without the risk of it deflating or being ustable. A board with four bolt plates was recessed into the underside of the crocodile to secure it onto a trolley for the performances. Creases were carved into the polystyrene and string was glued all around to recreate the seams. It was then scrimmed using muslin, PVA and glaze. The whole piece was sprayed using and air gun and ROSCO paint. The black motif, eyes and teeth were hand painted. Finally the whole piece was sprayed with several coats of Gloss Bona Mega to create a plastic finish.
