CROCODILE PUPPET - MAQUETTE

Peter Pan | Nevada Ballet (2025) | Designed by Emma Bailey

For Nevada Ballet’s production of Peter Pan, Scottish Opera was asked to construct a 6.5 m crocodile puppet. Working alongside puppetmaker/ prop maker Natasha Jiggings I constructed a 1:8 scale model of the body and head (with moving jaw) of the crocodile. From there I formed a pattern of the head and Natasha worked on the body to create the articulated sections. Once removed the pattern was scanned and printed to scale. The entire piece was constructed from thick plastazote foam. Harnesses were fitted inside the body and tail to acomodate the three performers who would animate the puppet. Composed of four separate sections for travel and storage purposes, the entire piece was fitted together with webbing and clips and an interlocking spine fitted with pins.
